Completely waterproof, neutral to moisture or temperature. The igniter consists of a rectangular block of magnesium that burns at a very high temperature along which a flint rod is placed. Tinder alone is enough for about 2,000 uses.
Usage - the prepared kindling should be scraped off with a knife or other hard magnesium shavings. The chips are a flammable material that makes it easy to get a fire to light a kindling. Use a hard object, e.g. a knife (blunt side of the blade) to be vigorously dragged along the tinder to create a spark, directing it to the kindling.
